BUT before you do, I wanted to tell you about the newly formed EDEN LGBTQ Youth Foundation (501(c)(3) pending). The mission of the EDEN LGBTQ Youth Foundation is to serve as a community, cultural and funding source for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer youth in the Greater Bay Area through grants, scholarships and initiatives. Ramona Webb, also know by her artist name Mona Webb, has been named the executive director of the foundation.
The EDEN LGBTQ Youth Foundation* was born out of a yearly Pride event called EDEN in the Bay, which hosts more than 5,000 women and their allies over a four-day weekend during San Francisco Pride. One hundred percent of the proceeds from EDEN events, in addition to grants and private donors, will go to fund the initiatives of the EDEN LGBTQ Youth Foundation. To find out more about the foundation, like the Facebook Page or visit the website and learn more about the Foundation's 2013 initiatives.
*The author of this column sits on the board of directors of the EDEN LGBTQ Youth Foundation.

ADRIENNE MAREE BROWN & FRIENDS: OCTAVIA BUTLER & EMERGENT STRATEGY
SOLESPACE
1714 Telegraph, Oakland
6:30 p.m.- 9 p.m.
FREE
Join SoleSpace in welcoming Adrienne Maree Brown back to the Bay for this lively conversation inspired by the work of visionary, post-apocalyptic Sci-Fi author Octavia Butler.
Butler's writing - in "The Parable" series and other works - inspires and provokes new thinking about how we can bring into being the kind of society that we want, expanding what we might imagine. Butler showed us adaptive, intuitive, shared leadership in practice through her protagonists. This recurrent theme - dubbed "Emergent Strategy"- will be a key focus of the evening's discussion.
Adrienne will be joined by kick-ass cultural workers Dani McClain, Malkia Cyril and others.
Background: Brown is a writer, facilitator, doula and creator living in Detroit. Among other things, she has worked as executive director of The Ruckus Society and as a national coordinator of the U.S. Social Forum 2010.
Check out her writing at The Luscious Satyagraha: adriennemareebrown.net

::: A-SKI, "CHANGE THE MOOD" LP NOW OUT ON ITUNES :::
Over the past three decades, LA-based A-Ski has become one of the most trusted musical tastemakers in the U.S. and beyond. As a deejay, producer and musicologist, he consistently raises the bar in performance and showmanship. His style, often described as “refreshing and energetic,” has earned this music aficionado a loyal following and a reputation as “the life of the party.” His eclectic selections, skillful approach to the turntables and MC’ing, make him a triple threat to his peers. Refusing to rely on gimmicks or trends, A-Ski’s reputation is solely built on a sincere love of music, dance and atmosphere. “Improving the quality of life through sound” is his mantra, which has maintained the longevity of his career in music.
From KCRW to The Do Over, to song placements for clients like Nike, Ralph Lauren and Sports Illustrated, A-Ski has been at both the forefront and behind the scenes in Los Angeles. His fingerprints are all over the music scene there.
Join us early from 9 to 10 p.m. for a special listening session with A-Ski and his new album "Change the Mood." There you can purchase limited edition merchandise, chat with A-Ski and be the first to download his album. And stick around as ULTRAWAVE blazes the night with a guest DJ set from A-Ski himself -- celebrating his birthday with us!!!

BROUN FELLINIS
DISCO VOLANTE
347 14TH St., Oakland
9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
$5 cover
Abstract Aphro Electro Dub Jazz ... The Broun Fellinis are a jazz/hip-hop trio hailing from the Bay Area whose members include percussionist Professor Boris Karnaz (born Kevin Carnes), bassist Kirk the Redeemer and woodwind player Black Edgar Kenyatta. Their debut, Aphrokubist Improvisations, Vol. 9, was released in 1995. The group has created their own mythology explaining their origins - they claim to be from the mythical land of Boohaabia, which floats off the coast of Madagascar and is surrounded by the Phat Temple, the Ministry of Imagination and the Oasis of Surprise, which are all at equal distances from Boohaabia. Further, Karnaz claims that Boohaabia may be reached through the group's music or perhaps through Kirk the Redeemer's bass cabinet if the pilgrim has brought him some cashews; Karnaz promises that the listener's chair will then sink six inches into the sand and giraffes will appear, ready to take the listener wherever he may want to go.
