The Downtown Oakland and Lake Merritt-Uptown District Associations, Geoffrey’s Inner Circle,
and Black Cinema At Large, after hosting a film screening and community
engagement on the problem of Human Sex Trafficking in Oakland, saw a
very real need for winter clothing services for victims of trafficking
and the homeless. This includes getting the clothing to the population
directly, without the need of agency referral.
These organizations are combining their goodwill efforts with Oakland’s Serenity House [http:// www.serenityhouse680.org/],
a center for women that are on their way to recovery from substance
abuse, mental illness, homelessness, and the sexual abuse. Serenity
House also does field work in the Oakland streets with men and children.
Winter coats for all ages and sizes are needed, as well as warm caps
and socks. Items should be clean and in good and wearable condition.
