When Oakland Local celebrates the holiday season and recognizes some of Oakland's community leaders on Dec. 13, at Tamarindo Antojeria, everyone celebrating will be eating and drinking some of the most interesting food in Old Oakland.
Gloria Rodriquez and her son - co-owner, architect and PopupHood co-founder Alfonso Dominguez - are serving Oakland Local party attendees a full menu of Mexican appetizers, including Botana de Pico de Gallo, sliced cucumbers with fruit, sea salt, lime and peanut chile, guacamole con totopos, guacamole and chips, cervice, empanadas de platano and turnovers with plantains with mole and crema, among other treats.
We're also drinking a full bar of white and red sangria, a special tequila cocktail, some yummy non-alcoholic aqua frescos (pray for watermelon) and a full house of Mexican beers, including Negra Modelo and Pacifico.
"Oakland Local's had such a good year and we've got such cool sponsors in local card vendor Marqeta, we wanted to celebrate somewhere that was truly locally-owned and fun," Debi Mason, OL's marketing manager and one of the party planners, said.
"This is such a cool event, recognizing some of Oakland's most creative community leaders and we're delighted to have it at this Marqeta restaurant," said Omri Dahan, Marqeta's co-founder, chief revenue officer and one of the developers of the Explore Oakland card, which provides great value on meals at local Oakland restaurants. It's also a chance to donate to a local charity.
Tickets for the celebration are $10 and some are still available. Get yours at http://bit.ly/TAMldd
Music will be provided by Oakland's own Destiny Muhammad and speakers include Mayor Jean Quan.
