Students from the Media Enterprise Alliance at KDOL-TV station were the stars of the show Nov. 14 when the KDOL/MEA grown-ups who run the program invited local luminaries, parents and friends to come tour the brand new and refurbished studios, snack on treats and learn more about the Media Alliance's mission.

The crowd of 100-plus attentive guests included Ellin O'Leary, ED of Youth Radio, Oakland's best-funded and most venerable youth program; Keith "KDub" Williams, educator and entrepreneur who is responsible for both Hood Games and the Defremery park skateboard space; Linda Schacht, professor at University of California, Berkeley, School of Journalism; Jumoke Hinton Hodge, recently re-elected School Board member; Jody London, Oakland School Board president; and Mayor Jean Quan, who spoke eloquently about the importance of the program. The event also saw dozens of staff, faculty and students, many of whom shared how MEA had changed their lives.

The station is paid for and run by funding from the city of Oakland with support from Oakland Unified School District, private donors and grant.

See lots of photos in the Flickr slideshow and check out MEA videos this winter and spring. This is a terrific group doing solid work.
