Debut performance of Negative Press Project, a seven-piece electro-acoustic jazz/indie-rock inspired original music collective.
This will be an exciting evening of many never before performed original compositions with this newly formed group.
Based in Oakland, Negative Press Project is the three year in the making musical vision of bassist and co-leader, Andrew Lion. Originally a one off studio experiment with some help from inimitable guitarist, Matthew Charles Heulitt (Narada Michael Walden, Zigaboo Modeliste, etc.), Andrew long held onto the idea of building on the foundation of that 2 day recording session which yielded one original and two instrumental/improvisatory arrangements (by Heulitt) of songs from now defunct San Francisco indie rock bands, Spoke., and 20 Minute Loop.
Since then, Andrew Lion has been further developing his skills as a composer and acoustic bass player through the Jazzschool Institute in Berkeley California, while he pursues a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Studies/Performance.
The group chose Avonova, a house concert venue in the Temescal area of Oakland, for its intimacy. As many jazz clubs throughout the U.S. have fallen on hard times, house concert venues have been emerging as preferred spaces for jazz and experimental music.
The line-up includes a group of close peers from Jazzschool Institute coming up on the Bay Area jazz scene. This maiden voyage of the band also includes two of the performers from the original recording session that spawned the project!
