The Ashby bike station will most resemble the bike station at Embarcadero BART.
A new 124-capacity bike station will open within a month at Ashby BART station. The bike station will be similar to the existing self-service bike parking facility at Embarcadero station, and will be located just south of the main station entrance.
The BikeLink system in effect at other bike stations and lockers will allow access to the bike parking area at the new station. BikeLink charges a storage fee of 3 cents per hour from 9 am - 6 pm and 1 cent per hour at other times.
Steve Beroldo, of BART's Customer Access Department, explained that the project fits into BART's bike parking philosophy "to offer lots of options, because they all seem to get used."
In preparation for the new bike station, users of the Ashby station's bike lockers were asked to remove their bikes by January 17. The new bike station coincides with the regularly scheduled upgrade of several bike racks outside Ashby station. As some noticed, the old-style racks were removed, sometimes with bicycles still attached.
