By Meg Bertoni

Nick’s Pizza, the "Oakland-style" pizzeria at 6211 Shattuck in Oakland, will host its third seasonal Community Meal from 5 to 7 p.m. TODAY, Monday, Jan. 28.

Chef Nick Yapor-Cox conceived these quarterly events as a way to bring neighbors and fans to his tiny North Oakland shop, also giving him a chance to give back to the community. Free pizza, salad and beverages will be available to everyone who stops by the pizzeria.

Also on hand will be Caamaño Bros Soda Pop, serving up free tastes of their natural craft soft drinks. Completing the community feeling, local musicians will play live.

Previous quarterly Community Meals have been great successes, with the shop handing out more than 300 free slices of pizza at each one. Slices available will be based on the local produce and fresh ingredients Yapor-Cox procures that week, served up on his famous “Oakland-style” crispy, chewy sourdough crust.

Participants in this exciting event are encouraged to bring their own plates or cups to help reduce waste.
