Update: Feb 2, 8:30 AM-- The Bay Area News Group is reporting that three people were wounded and one killed at the Murmur last night. The murdered man's name is Kiante Campbell, from Oakland, and he was 18. There is an Oakland man of about that age with a Facebook profile; the link is here. Two buystanders were also hit by bullets, as was another teenager reported to be with Campbell.
Crowds of people filled the streets at February's Art Murmur/First Friday in Oakland, CA, but at 10:51 pm, tragedy struck. One person was shot and killed and at least one other was shot at the Oakland Art Murmur/First Friday, on 20th Street and Telegraph. Police say no suspects were taken into custody. As we wait for more police information, Oakland Local reports on social media reaction to the situation..
I am not sure what happened, but I think there is a story for Oakland Local here. Art Murmur was a low key event, albeit successful, with a moderately large crowd. Then about Sept of last year there was some kind of a change. That included a shady deal that left the landlords son owning what is basically Mama Buz Cafe. Rock Paper Scissors is also no longer part of Art Murmur and the folk who just came and informally sold art on the street got told that they must have permits, even for non commercial things.
Then we closed the street and the same profesional event vendors that swamp everything else swamped this event.
Big crowds, no real difference between this an all other commercial events and now a shooting. Hmmmm....
I think there should be some background reporting here.
Don, there is! agreed,
