Mayor Jean Quan's annual fundraising event for her office holder's account was a standing room only affair with close to 400 guests attending at the Chabot Science Center in Oakland.

After paying for use of the center, the mayor reportedly raised about $4,000, which will be used to help fund the Quan's weekly newsletter of Oakland events and cover expenses at community events and street fairs. This includes printing advertising cards for the annual Sunday Concerts in the Redwoods. 

"Over 300 were registered, but not all of them attended," said Chris Quan, who helps coordinate the volunteer Mayor's Ambassador program. "Many registered on-site and we almost ran out of blank name tags. I would estimate 400." 

Chris Quan, who is not related to the mayor, added "None of the money is used for elections."

"Every year we bring more people together," Dr. Floyd Huen, the mayor's husband and a founder of LifeLong medical clinics in Oakland and Berkeley, said. "Attendees this year included Deputy Mayor Sandre Swanson, Assemblyman Rob Bonta and Councilman Dan Kalb from District 1. Jean made the prime rib, tamales and I made the black mushrooms and brussel sprouts. We had several volunteers help us with the food that night and lots of donations from local restaurants and stores."

Attendees shared in an enormous buffet with vegetarian options, rich meats and killer desserts and also got to tour science center exhibits and see the planetarium show.

The Skyline High School Jazz Band provided music throughout the event.
